Finally we come to the end of an eventful year. 2017 has been a year full of nice surprises when we talk about the PC gaming industry. The glorious master race scene has never looked better. With console exclusives making their PC debut like Destiny 2 and heavily anticipated indie titles like Cuphead, 2017 was no less than a roller coaster ride for any PC gamer out there. Apart from traditional games, we also saw a monstrous increase in the number of people getting into competitive gaming.
Here, we look at some of the best PC games that saw daylight this year. We list out the top 5 PC games of the year and how they stand apart from others. So, without any further delay, let’s jump right into it.
Top 5 PC Games Of The Year
Destiny 2
The first on the list is none other than Bungie’s Destiny 2. The franchise started out as a console exclusive in 2014 and met with critical acclaim. The game from the developers of Halo was a fresh take on the intergalactic shooting arena. However it didn’t ditch its already huge fan base by keeping elements that made the Halo franchise popular. What amazed us is the inclusion of an intriguing campaign with big explosive guns. The combat is excellent, the visuals are stunning and the game is tons of fun.

Assassin’s Creed: Origins
This one needs no introduction as the franchise has matured enough already. Assassin’s Creed: Origins takes a dying series and breathes new life into it. After the heavily criticized Unity and and the not so successful Syndicate, Assassin’s Creed: Origins aimed to listen to the fans. The beautifully rendered Egyptian landscape is a treat to the eyes. The slightly barmy sci-fi story with a fascinating protagonist, Bayek are the key points that make it a great addition to the series. And not to forget, his companion, Senu was the second most loved character in the game. There’s no multiplayer, so you don’t have to worry about any leaderboard. Just sit back and enjoy this splendid adventure maxed out on your gaming rig.
Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus
If you ever thought that the story of B J Blazkowicz (or better known as Terror Billy) was over, then you couldn’t be any more wrong. The New Colossus continues after the events of The New Order and takes place in a Nazi-occupied America. Want to kill overpowered Nazi killing machines with dual wielding Shotguns? Check. The developers at MachineGames held nothing back with this. The New Colossus explores a lot of complex and uncomfortable themes that barely made their way to any video game before this and believe me, that’s what makes this a great game. An experience with no compromise! Lots of Nazi blood, tons of explosions and an exhilarating story, Wolfenstein: The New Order has got it all.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds
To be honest, this came out of nowhere and currently leading the Steam charts. According to the latest stats, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds now regularly has over 1 million concurrent players. What’s so special about it? Well, it’s a Battle Royale-inspired multiplayer survival shooter with average graphics. But the gameplay is a no match for any other multiplayer game right now. Its large open worlds are best rendered on the PC and that’s why it finds it place on this list. In addition to that, the game is also available on the Xbox One.
Sonic Mania
Our beloved hedgehog makes his return in this much anticipated entry in the classic series. It’s simply the best installment in the series in recent years. Sonic Mania successfully reignites the 90s nostalgia with the 8-bit graphics and same gameplay elements. The levels are complex and challenging as well. It hasn’t got the best bosses and the save system is not the most comfortable one, but at its heart it’s the Sonic game we’ve been craving for years. Understanding the momentum while switching deliciously between volatile marble runs and more precise platforming is the key.
