Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot is apparently looking forward to Nintendo’s next system codenamed NX, which is set to arrive in March 2017. He said during an earnings call that not only he believes the system is great, but also that it’ll attract casual gamers which, if you remember, was why the original Wii was such an enormous success.
Of course, the Wii launched in 2006, at a time when smartphones and mobile gaming hadn’t really exploded yet. These days, that’s where the casual market is concentrated at and they don’t seem to be in any hurry to move to a different system. What is Nintendo’s proposition? Not a lot of information is available as of now, but we do know the rumors that say it’s a console/handheld hybrid that’s backed by “industry-leading technology”.
Only time will tell if that concept is actually interesting to casual gamers, and if hardcore gamers will be willing to give Nintendo another chance.
