What Metal Gear Survive Needs to Do to Impress

Metal Gear Survive was announced today at Gamescom 2016 and it has already gathered quite a bit of fan anticipation simply due to the fact that it’s the first Metal Gear game after series creator Hideo Kojima, who had been working on the franchise for 25 years, left to form his own production studio.

Now Konami is trying to pick up the franchise under a different developer with a game focused on co-op that doesn’t seem to have much of a story. That’s obviously a far cry from Metal Gear, but that’s not to say it couldn’t work. Metal Gear Survive, whatever it ends up being, needs to have fun gameplay mechanics and top-shelf polish and attention to detail. That’s what makes Metal Gear stands out, if it has those qualities handled by a competent developer, it won’t matter if the game is different from Kojima’s efforts.

We’ll have to see how the game shapes up as more information becomes available. In the meantime, here’s the debut trailer.
