Sony CEO Kaz Hirai has spoken about his company’s plans yet again, this time claiming that Sony is going to enter the mobile market following the success of Pokemon GO. “[Mobile gaming] is something we are aggressively getting into,” he stated. “It’s quite a shift from being just a console-based business to being on mobile phones as well.”
Hirai called Pokemon GO a game-changer and said it’s an innovative idea that’s going to “lift all boats” for the video game industry. Sony has already employed a development studio fully dedicated to mobile gaming, called ForwardWorks. This company will now begin to work with AR, as well as “leverage the intellectual property of the numerous PlayStation dedicated software titles”.
