After having performed poorly all year, the hero shooter from Borderlands developer Gearbox, Battleborn, is reportedly switching to a free-to-play model in the “coming months”, according to a source that spoke with Kotaku.
Apparently, Gearbox wanted the game to be free-to-play from the start but publisher 2K pushed the $60 price-point. Even if that’s not true, the decision would be wise as the game hasn’t been much of a success: it was discounted to $40 two weeks after launch, it currently costs $20 on Amazon, and now Battleborn is going to be free.
You might remember another one of 2K’s games, Evolve, went free-to-play earlier this year as well and saw a resurgence in popularity.
