Battleborn, the new first-person shooter by Gearbox Software (developers of the Borderlands franchise) was a disappointment for publisher Take-Two Interactive. We reported that the player numbers had dropped massively last month, and that situation hasn’t improved since then.
“While the game launched to solid reviews, its performance in the market has been below our expectations,” said Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick. We feel the reviews were actually more mixed than solid, but that’s debatable.
That said, developer Gearbox is not losing all hope in Battleborn. Take-Two thinks there is “still an opportunity to grow the franchise”. They’ll have to make significant improvements, especially now that Overwatch is out and Evolve is free-to-play
