Developer Hello Games had already announced that No Man’s Sky would be getting its first update on release day, the well-known “day one patch”. They announced that gamers who have already been playing through early copies should delete their save files before downloading this new update. If they don’t, they’ll miss out on “new content and experiences”.
Servers were entirely wiped twice, on Sunday, August 7 and again on the following day, August 8. Players who get the game normally at launch date, August 8, will be able to download the patch alongside the game, so there’s no hassle.
