Pokemon 2DS Coming to Japan, No word on Western release yet

Nintendo and the Pokemon Company have announced that the Pokemon-themed 2DS are coming to Japan.

The handheld retro-looking system will come in four different colors: yellow, red, green, and blue. The Pokemon 2DS will arrive on February 27, 2016. And if you wonder if that’s a special date, it’s indeed. It’s in fact the 20th anniversary of the beloved Pokemon series.

The Pokemon 2DS systems will come with pre-installed copies of the games their colors correspond to. You also get special stickers, a code to download Mew for the latest Pokemon games, and more. You can find the entire list here.

Nintendo announced in a Nintendo Direct event this year that the Pokemon Blue, Yellow, and Red are coming to the 3DS eShop on February 27. Players will now be allowed to trade and battle their Pokemon wirelessly which was not possible in the original games. They originally required a cable for the multiplayer functionality.

There’s no word on the western release of the special edition 2DS as of yet.
