One of the biggest differences between the PS4 Pro and its prime competitor, the upcoming Xbox One Scorpio is that owners of Sony’s upgraded systems won’t be able to play 4K Blu-Ray discs on it. Sony has explained that they realize the consumer trends are heading to streaming video, so they are content with offering YouTube and Netflix at 4K with HDR.
While the slow death of optical media is undeniable, this could not be the best idea for Sony. The PS4 Pro is just going to seem weaker in the public eye compared to the Xbox One Scorpio, especially now that we know its hardware is going to be more powerful than the PS4 Pro’s. Not having Blu-Ray support is just going to add insult to injury.
If you remember, back in 2013 when this current console generation started, the PS4 being slightly more powerful than the Xbox One while also cheaper was a big factor for undecided gamers. The tables could be turning now.
