A collaboration of Ubisoft with a medical company Amblyotech to create games for people who suffer from Amblyopia, commonly known as ‘Lazy eye’. This partnership was announced back in 2015 and Amblyotech is seeking for approval from the Food and Drug Administration to offer the games Dig Rush and Monster Burner to as prescribed by physicians.
Mathiew Ferland Ubisoft’s Senior Producer said:
“The development of Dig Rush and Monster Burner was a great opportunity for us to contribute our knowledge and skills in video game development to help materialize a breakthrough medical treatment”
This is an amazingly big deal, as it shows that video game companies are working with medical companies and producing products which are solely purposed for patients of a certain condition.
With more than 9 million people in the US alone who suffer from Lazy Eye, this new purpose of using video games as therapy is ingenious.
