Digital Extremes, the studio behind one of the best free to play games on steam, Warframe, has revealed their new project. Their latest reveal is called Keystone “with a distinct blend of first-person action and deck-building strategies” is a strategic first person shooter at heart. The developers also mentioned that there will be closed Alpha of the game latest this week.
Sheldon Carter, the head of Digital Extremes studios said “The long-running success of Warframe has enabled us to build up a second internal team to create a wholly different but equally satisfying game concept that we’re really excited about. Keystone originates from our roots in the FPS world and mixing genres like we have done with Warframe. We believe there’s room to expand the confines of what defines a good FPS and hope our community will see the potential and get on board for the ride.”
The game brings forward an amazing new way to play FPS games; set in a 1970’s “multiverse”, the players play on a virtual game board. Each player can create their deck of cards with unique set of features and use different strategies. Some cards bring special weapons and bonus powers as well
According to the studio, “With timing and resourcefulness, personally customized decks give players the upper hand in battle both individually and when strategically coupled with teammates’ decks”
Even though I enjoyed warframe quite a bit; the latest game seems kind of gimmicky to me, the concept is admittedly pretty cool, but we know nothing about it at this point. With the limited information we have, you can’t really judge the game for its true worth.
It’s most probably a Free to Play game like the studios’ previous IP. Whatever the case may be, we’re getting our hands on a copy.
