Shannon Loftis, publishing general manager at Microsoft, has confirmed that Xbox Scorpio games developed by Microsoft will render at native 4K, instead of being upscaled to that resolution. The Xbox Scorpio launches in holiday 2017. The price hasn’t been announced, but it won’t be cheap.
This is an advantage for Microsoft because Sony’s PS4 Pro, which launches this November for $400, is not only estimated to be less powerful than the Scorpio, but also most games will be upscaled to 4K. PlayStation president Andrew House said so: “I would say the majority will be upscaled–at least based on the game portfolio I have seen to date.”
