E3 2017 Preview: What to Expect, Dates and More

When it comes to gaming, there are but a few moments throughout a year when we can truly let our inner nerds out. There are many games which we want to see at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2017 which ranges from all types of categories from indie games like Harvest Moon: Light of Hope and Splatoon 2, to the much awaited State of Decay 2 and Borderlands 3.

There will most definitely be a slew of video games which will be featured at E3 and the most prominent ones may be the least discussed. To say we don’t want to see the latest God of War, Destiny 2, Star Wars Battlefront 2, the newest Assassin’s Creed, Days Gone, Death Stranding, and more would be an understatement.

But, saying that games like Call of Cthulhu, Aztez, Need for Speed Payback etc. aren’t top picks in the convention, would be unfair for the developers.  The ultimate goal of E3 this year is to set in motion the almost halted video game releases this year, as it has arguably been an extremely slow year for gaming, so far at least.

What you should expect at E3 2017

You may assume that at this point, so close to E3 2017, we would know the exact list of all the video games which are to be shown off or announced at the expo. But, that’s not the case. There are a lot of video games which have been confirmed yes, but equally as many major ones have not been, and there will be many surprises as well.

Some of the major releases which have been rumored to get shown off at E3 include according to IGN:

The mentioned games are perhaps one of the most talk about games this time of the year. It will be a relief to finally get some news about Cyberpunk 2077 and what the game truly is about, and whether or not Witcher 3 has a competitor. God of War is also a main feature in the expo, with the brilliant teaser and 10 minute gameplay video we got from the developers a while ago, only added to the expectations.

We already got to know a lot about Middle-Earth: Shadow of War as well, the many features of the game as well as extensive game play videos, there have also been in-depth videos by the developers regarding the game’s mechanics, features and more; we do expect to see some more news regarding development and an exact release date as well.

Days Gone, Spider-Man and the Final Fantasy VII Remake for the PlayStation 4 will be a great addition to list and are expected to be shown off with much more detail than before; the release date and game play for these games is something to look out for.

The latest Assassin’s Creed game will most probably be shown off at the Expo; we’re already gotten a ton of rumors and leaks regarding the game, and we do expect to see some live game play as well as get a specific release date as well.

Far Cry 5 has also gotten a lot of attention lately with the very nice sum of trailers, neatly defining the whole game, the characters and the features we expect, it will definitely be a nice game to see at the Ubisoft slot.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to be shown off at E3 2017; this claim has been made by GameStop quite recently. We may not get a lot, but we will definitely get some news and information regarding the game. Though, the release date is still going to be in 2018.

There are also a list of tons of games which are confirmed for an E3 showing, these include (at this time) mostly indie and AA titles with the exception of a few AAA titles which include Call of Duty: WWII, FIFA 18, Star Wars Battlefront II, State of Decay 2 and the latest expansion for Battlefield 1 In the Name of the Tsar which is said to be showcased at the Expo.

Dates and Timings

The expo will start from13 Jun 2017 and continue till 15 Jun 2017, Cheesemaster3k created a table for the timings for E3 2017.

It is to be noted that this is for the major companies, and smaller developers will be fit into the schedule between them. Ubisoft is said to reveal two of their games, the latest South Park and Assassin’s Creed.

What We’re Really excited for

It is safe to say that even though there is a slew of smaller titles expected to get shown off at E3; the games which truly tickle our bones are AA or AAA titles. Cyber Punk 2077 is one of the most awaited game by CD Projekt RED, and as fans of the Witcher 3 series, we will definitely be keeping a close eye on the developers.

Bethesda is expected to show off two of their new IPs at the expo as well; they revealed a small poster which showed off Bethesda land a fun amusement park which most probably acts as a teaser for what is to come. It is to be noted that two of rides/worlds are under construction, which kind of makes us wonder what they have in stock for E3.

We would gladly accept any game play of the upcoming Nintendo Switch titles; Arms, Splatoon 2 and Super Mario Odyssey are confirmed to be shown off at the Switch slot along with many other games lined up for this year.

While we wouldn’t mind seeing another 10 minutes of gameplay from the God of War team, a definite release date for the game and some more information regarding the upcoming Sony releases, would happily be accepted.
