The latest Pokemon GO update has removed the 3-Step tracking feature and has also ceased support for third-party Pokemon locating services. These changes were met with criticism by fans, and developer Niantic Labs has taken to their Facebook page to respond to these comments.
The 3-Step display was meant to give players an indication of how close a Pokemon was to the player. Niantic explained that the feature was “confusing” and removing it improved the “underlying design”. As far as the third-party services, the reason the access has been limited is quite obvious – they were overloading the servers. They were simply too many and they can’t maintain quality if they keep allowing them.
Niantic also expressed their desire to release Pokemon GO in Brazil, one of the main countries where the game isn’t out yet.
