Research firm Cowen & Company put out a statement on Tuesday where they estimate Red Dead Redemption 2 will sell 15 million copies, “and that’s being conservative”. They specify it’s mostly because the first Red Dead Redemption was well received by both critics and fans, with the game’s reputation “growing in stature over the years.”
It’s true – Red Dead was an instant hit when it first came out, and its reputation only became stronger. When it became backwards compatible on Xbox One back in July, it saw a huge spike in popularity.
The first game sold 13 million copies as of February 2012. But Rockstar’s more recent Grand Theft Auto 5 shipped a whopping 65 million units.
