Monday, August 8 marks the beginning of Dota 2 championship tournament, held annually and dubbed The International. Over $20 million are up for grabs for the 16 competing teams, which is a record for this tournament.
For comparison’s sake, the total prize money on the 2016 Halo World Championships was just $2.5 million. But then again, Halo is nowhere near as big as Dota – the money is 25 percent of the revenue generated by the 2016 Battle Pass.
The event is already underway and these 16 teams will compete for a chance to play the finals, happening Saturday, August 13. Only four teams will make it to this point. You can watch the event in the Dota 2 website – as you’re reading this, the first matches have already started.
