Nanya Technology President, Pei-Ing Lee in a recent interview with DigitalTimes has said that the DRAM prices will rise throughout the second quarter till the third. This rise is due to the limited supply of the materials.
The prices will start showing stability by the beginning of the third quarter according to Lee. He explained that the prices will be depending on the major chip vendors’ capex plans for DRAM.
Nanya Technologies is expected to move to 20nm manufacturing technology by the start of the third quarter this year. He said that 30,000 12-inch wafers are planned to be manufactured using 20nm process by the first quarter of 2018. Meanwhile, the 30nm production will be reduced to 30,000 units monthly.
So, if you are planning for an upgrade this year, you’d better wait till fall to get some real deals.
