Microsoft’s Universal Xbox apps to be unveiled this month. It is reported that Microsoft may announce many Xbox apps. It has been reported that Microsoft may open the platform to developers. All these good stuff will be unveiled at the Build conference in San Francisco which will be held on March 30th.
Xbox chief Phil Spencer twitted that Microsoft will
“discuss our next steps with the Universal Windows Platform at build later this month.”
At present developers can build Xbox One apps but these apps are not universal Windows 10 apps. So to make apps that can run across PCs, tablets, phones, and the Xbox One, it is anticipated that Microsoft would open up its Xbox app store for developers. The apps and games could thus be run on the Xbox One.
Epic Games co-founder Tim Sweeney accused that Microsoft is creating a walled garden with its universal apps. He encouraged game developers to stand up to it. To this, Spencer says
“Windows has always been an open ecosystem welcoming the contributions of hardware and software partners, and will always continue to be.”
Spencer also mentioned that Microsoft’s universal apps for Windows 10 are a fully open ecosystem.
