How to Fix No Man’s Sky Errors: Crash, FPS Issue, Black Screen and More

1. Errors at Launch

MSVCR100.dll Error

Fix: Download and install Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 and it should launch.

2. FPS Drops and Boost

Solution 1Go into the properties of the game in your steam client and under the General tab uncheck the Enable Steam Overlay option.

Solution 2Go to ‘C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\No Man’s Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS’. Look for filename – ‘TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.MXML’, open it and find the ‘GSync’ option and change it to ‘False’ then Save and Exit.

Solution 3: NVIDIA Users

Update You OpenGL Drivers to get smoother FPS around 110.

Solution 4There is an issue with the numbers here. We set the max fps to 60 but got 45 and when we set it to 90, we got 60.

Solution 5From Menu go to Graphics tab and select Window Mode then hold the arrow to change it to ‘Borderless’. Again use the Solution 4 to Max your FPS Boost.

3. Black Screen of Death Error

Set NMS.exe to High Performance in their respective GPU management programs and select the embedded/weak/low-power GPU if there are more than one in the computer.

4. Stuttering Issue

Go to Graphic Option, enable v sync, and set fps to max not 60. The FPS will total vary on you GPU.

5. Either Steam isn’t running or you don’t have a suitable license Error

Solution 1 You might need to fix the missing files issue as it looks like VC 2013 Redist is required. If not then try next solution.

Solution 2 Some might be facing Comodo Sandboxing NMS.exe. To Fix, this issue checks your anti-virus, firewall, malware protection app.

Solution 3 Full Screen mode switching(Alt+Tab) will give an exception when you return back, but for the borderless screen mode work fine. Go to NMS in task manager and bring to front.

6. OpenGL Error

First, check if you have updated OpenGL 4.5. If you do and still facing issue then go to Steamapps/common/No Man’s Sky/Binaries/SETTINGS/TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS, and change the Fullscreen to False or set to your current resolution.

7. Mouse Jitters on Foot

Mouse controls jitter on foot – this caused by a combination of certain resolution and GFX card. A fix is in progress.

8. Sound Bug

If you too are facing the sound crackling issue then go to windows sound options and lower the audio quality to DVD quality(24 bit, 44100Hz). This should fix your sound bug.
